Abstract
Research conducted for this book led to gross silver usage figures substantially higher than the U.S. Bureau of Mines consumption data for the photographic industry, which is to be expected, and net consumption estimates far below the Bureau of Mines data. This is shown in Figure 19.1. The detailed accounting of U.S. Photographic Industry Usage and Consumption Estimates in Troy ounces for 1983 is shown in Table 19.1. The difference between Bureau of Mines reports and the estimates presented here is caused by the higher degree of completeness and accuracy that a photographic manufacturer can bring to such an analysis.
