Abstract
The Stephan’s Quintet is the prototype of compact groups of galaxies with discrepant redshifts. Four members of this group have radial velocity of about 6000 km/s, whilst the fifth, NGC 7320, has v~ 800 km/s. Several attempts of estimating the density of the “Stephan’s Quintet like” groups have been carried on, giving contradictory results about the evidence for a chance projection in the discordant redshift groups.
