Abstract
Canada is a country composed of ten provinces and a number of “territories”. The provinces all have similar parliamentary systems of government to that at the national or federal level, although the division of responsibilities is such that the provinces have an autonomous role in many areas, the environment being one. This division of power in the Canadian situation illustrates why it is not appropriate to examine just the federal process. Each of the provincial processes provides an unique approach to Environmental Assessment (EA).
Formerly employed by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment within the Environmental Assessment Section, before becoming adviser to the Ministry of Health and Environmental Protection in the Netherlands.
