Abstract

This paper reviews sane of the lessons learnt from a recent study into the environmental effects of water storage schemes in North West England. It indicates the important types of impacts which occur and those impacts which should be considered in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). Particular emphasis is placed on organization and methods because the author considers that it is the way in which expertise in EIA was used in the case study, rather than the extent of the knowledge itself, which is likely to be of greatest interest and application in other countries.
