Abstract
The first techniques for the prediction of cloudiness and precipitation were worked out by Smagorinsky and Collins [421, 422] and then by Lewis [382]. These methods were based on the use of empirical relations between the vertical velocity τ = dp/dt and the dew-point deficit Δ on the one hand, and the precipitation and cloudiness on the other.
