Abstract
The distribution of massive stars in the HR Diagram (HRD) is characterized by the following main features:
-
a)
a group of very luminous O-type stars, next to the ZAMS;
-
b)
an upper limit to the luminosity of blue and yellow supergiants, which is decreasing with decreasing effective temperature and which ends up with the lack of M supergiants brighter than M≃ −9.5;
-
c)
an almost continous distribution of blue supergiants, up to the spec tral type AO (Humphreys 1981).
