Summary
The method described for the determination of selected petrogenic aromatic hydrocarbons in environmental samples is based on computerized GC/MS. Quantitation is carried out by integrating the ion current profiles of the moleculare ions of the different compounds. The advantages of this analytical approach are discussed in terms of specificity, sensitivity, reproducibility and accuracy. Full automation of the instrumental analyses as well as of the data calculation and presentation is also described.
