Abstract

For about a decade until 1980 new developments in cytology were largely those involving animal species. Recently attempts have been made to extend this area of enquiry to plant species and to develop a series of appropriately modified techniques for handling plant chromosomes. In this laboratory the chromosomes of Vicia faba have provided the starting material, the resulting techniques then being extended to chromosomes of other species, notably in the genera Pisum, Linum and Triticosecale.
