Summary

Field experiments conducted for 3 years (1978–1980) in wet (Kharif) seasons under neutral soil conditions for determining the efficacy of Azolla as compared to urea revealed that (i) response of rice to N was 24, 15 and 10 kg N/ha at 25, 50 and 75 kg N/ha applied as urea, respectively, (ii) response to 6 t/ha of Azolla alone (incorporated) was equivalent to 36 kg N/ha, (iii) response to Azolla (inoculation, growing in situ and incorporated) was equivalent to 24 kg N/ha.
