Abstract
As described in Sections 10.1 and 10.2, propagation of the X wave transverse to the imposed magnetic field involves linear polarization of the magnetic field of the wave back and forth along the imposed magnetic field, together with elliptic polarization of the electric field in a plane perpendicular to the imposed magnetic field. Using the axes indicated in Figure 10.1, the wave is propagating in the y direction and the electric field is E = (E x , E y , 0)
