Abstract
First found in the Maritimes in 1971, the disease is widespread in New Brunswick, was present from 1972 to 1978 in Nova Scotia, and has not yet been found in Prince Edward Island. About one-third of the pine plantations are infected in New Brunswick, the inoculum originating from surrounding areas. Non-North American races have been identified serologically at nine locations since 1978 but European race-like symptoms have not been observed.
