Abstract

Over, the past decade a number of research institutions have developed computer based systems for the analysis of Longterm Ambulatory Continuous Electrocardiographic Recordings (LACER). Some of these systems derive from earlier coronary care monitoring systems and share basic detection and classification algorithms. While differing widely in detail, the broad outlines of these systems show many common features. The paper describes these common aspects and then compares the main features of several such systems. It remains hard to compare system performance and although recent development of standard databases and evaluation techniques show promise they are not yet widely used. New developments in real-time monitors and further clinical research using the LACER analysis systems themselves seem likely to change this field radically over the next decade.
