Sedimentology

Abstract

A good case could be made for regarding deltas as the single most important clastic sedimentary environment solely on the basis of the enormous reserves of coal, oil and natural gas that are located within ancient deltaic sediments. A similar case could have been made thousands of years ago since deltas were amongst the most prized areas of agricultural land in ancient times, witness the great civilisations that grew up based upon deltas such as the Nile and Tigris-Euphrates.
