Abstract

Pheretima alexandri, one of the largest and dominant species of earthworms at Medziphema, Nagaland, North Eastern India, deposits a thick layer of castings on the soil surface. This report describes (a) the status of certain macronutrients in these casts and in the underlying soils both with and without litter cover, (b) the microflora of the casts, and (c) the effect of natural wild fire on the casts.
