Abstract
There are two major aspects of structural petrology. The first relates to the recognition and description of the geometrical properties of rock fabrics, and is known as petrofabric analysis. The second involves the attempt to establish relationships between these geometrical properties and the movements or strains involved in the generation of the fabric, and even to infer possible causative forces or stresses. This is known as petrotectonics. These two aspects of the subject are further discussed below.
