Abstract

In Example 10.1 the four treatments being compared were four qualitatively different treatments, but in some experiments the treatments are just different quantities of a given fertilizer, different temperatures for operating an industrial process, etc. With such experiments, the analysis proceeds by combining the ideas of regression with the methods given in Chapter 10 for ‘The analysis of variance’. The following example was reported by Williams (1959).
