Abstract
It will now be helpful to elaborate further on different kinds of change in vegetation. It was noted in Section 1.3 that the literature on the terminology of vegetation change is confused. This is partly because vegetation is infinitely variable in space and time, so that there are no hard and fast dividing lines between any different kinds of change that may be recognized, and partly because our perception of change varies with the scale at which vegetation is viewed.
