Post-Larval Ecology and Behaviour

  • Chapter
The Eel

Abstract

The term ‘glass eel’ here refers to all developmental stages from the end of metamorphosis in the leptocephalus to the beginning of pigmentation, i.e. Stage Vb (see p. 15). Following this stage the young eels are called ‘elvers’. Geographically this account begins at the Continental Shelf, the region where the account of larval distribution in Chapter 2 was interrupted.
