Abstract
Cepaea nemoralis is a common European land snail. The distribution extends from Scandinavia in the north to northern Spain and Italy in the south, from Ireland in the west to Germany in the east. Like Drosophila pseudoobscura and Man almost all populations which have been examined exhibit polymorphism. In the case of C, nemoralis the polymorphism studied is visual, affecting the colour and pattern of the shell.
