Abstract
Astrochemistry is concerned with the study of the matter which exists in the universe in, for example, planets, stars, and the interstellar medium. The absorption and emission spectra of these enable some of the atoms and molecules present in these systems to be identified. This leads to various theories, in particular, how the universe came to be and how life evolved. Often much speculation is involved; a knowledge of photochemistry and various types of chemical reactions is required besides an appreciation of the processes which may take place in conditions much more extreme than can be experienced on the earth; for example, the temperatures of stars range from 50000 to 3000 K.
