Abstract
Congenital cleft palate is one of the common congenital deformities in China. The objectives of closing a cleft palate are to restore normal anatomical structure and to provide a mechanism for normal speech. Both these objectives may be attained by surgical operation to realize the palatopharyngeal closure, but what is most important is to obtain normal speech, and this is most difficult.
