Abstract
A model which represents an object either designed or in the process of being designed can contain many different types of data: geometric, technological, etc. This chapter is concerned with geometric modelling, or the representation of objects from the point of view of their geometric properties. The geometric model frequently occupies an important place in CAD/CAM applications and is used both during development and manufacture. For example, it is necessary to know the geometric properties in order to model finished parts, or to produce manufacturing plans, or to produce, by more or less automated means, numerical control tapes.
