Abstract

As stated in the preface by the eminent polymer scientist, Herman F. Mark, the word polyethylene is over 120 years old. What is now known as hiqh density polyethylene (HDPE) was made by von Pechmann and others around the beginning of the 20th century and again by another eminent polymer scientist, Carl S. Marvel in 1930.
