Abstract

The use of microprocessors in the telecommunications industry is a natural outgrowth of the application of digital technology. As in all other electronics-related industries, telecommunications has more and more rapidly incorporated digital circuitry into its products. A major reason for incorporating microprocessors into communications equipments is that it keeps costs down by permitting much more efficient use of the available communications capacity.
