Abstract
The first start dates back to the early thirties, about 1931. One or two years before that date a young assistant professor came to the Institute of Experimental Physics of the Pázmány Péter (now: Eötvös Lóránd**) University of Sciences, Budapest. The then professor of experimental physics, a former pupil of Eotvos, was an open-minded man who gave his assistants the liberty to choose the field of research they wanted to work in, if he saw ingenuity and spirit in the young people. In such cases he encouraged and helped them on their new, audacious paths — albeit he did not join them.
