Radio Emission From Strong X-Ray Sources

Abstract

We review the properties of some of the radio sources associated with very energetic stellar systems that are also strong x-ray sources. Extended lobes of radio emission are seen in Sco X-1, SS433, and Cyg X-3, with the latter two showing regular or intermittent indications of expanding structures with velocities of the order of 0.3c. Some of the observations of these and other radio-emitting x-ray sources are summarized. A working model of accretion-disk outflows resulting in jets that expand like “cylindrical” supernovae is discussed as an explanation for the production of relativistic particles and fields in SS433. The ubiquity of jets and strong synchrotron sources in these and other mass-outflow objects is discussed.
