Abstract

Methane, in both the solid and the non-condensed phases, plays an important role in the structure of our planets, where extreme conditions of low temperature and high pressure are prevalent. This paper reports an investigation of the phase diagram of solid methane up to 60 kbar and down to 2.1 K, using the method of nuclear magnetic resonance and of a diamond anvil cell.
