Part of the book series: The GeoJournal Library ((GEJL,volume 5))

Abstract

Geographers have demonstrated widespread interest in renewable energy resources. This interest reflects both the general popularity of renewable energy and the special appeal that renewable energy’s resource and spatial attributes have to members of the profession. These special characteristics include use of local and regional resources, use of flow resources on a sustained yield basis, greater local control and independence, reduction of international and intergenerational conflicts, reduced environmental disruption, and utilization of seasonal and daily climatic and biological patterns long studied by geographers.
