Abstract

The functioning of the tropical climate system was throughout this book considered from various perspectives, but always with emphasis on the modern time scale. This final chapter is a preliminary synopsis of climate and circulation conditions in the tropics in the geological past. The available field evidence limits this attempt mainly to the last 30 000 years. For the more distant past refer to the comprehensive review of Crowley (1983).
