Abstract
Existing social and economic data systems are most highly developed at the national level. However, these national aggregates are based directly or indirectly on data collected from individuals, households, firms, and other organizations. The aggregates are useful because sociologists and economists have built up extensive bodies of theory, empirical research, and personal experience concerning the attributes and behaviors of the primary decision-making units.
