Microscopic Study of Local Nucleus-Nucleus Potentials

  • Chapter
Clustering Aspects of Nuclear Structure

Abstract

By using the WKB approximation as a mediator, we convert with high accuracy the non-local potentials of the resonating group method into their equivalent local potentials. On the basis of the analyses of the localized potentials we discuss the basic properties of the inter-nucleus interaction in the local potential picture. At the same time, by reviewing various microscopic theories to calculate the inter-nucleus potential, we compare our theory with other microscopic theories and discuss the reasons why there exist large difference for some potential properties between different theories. The problems we treat include (1) potential depth in relation to the Pauli-forbidden region and to the validity of the adiabatic treatment, (2) energy-dependence and mass-number-dependence in relation to the various exchange contributions, (3) comparison of potentials with light and heavy projectiles.
