Carbon Isotope Ratios in Oxygen Rich Mira and SRa Variables

Part of the book series: Astrophysics and Space Science Library ((ASSL,volume 114))

Abstract

Carbon isotope ratios have been measured in oxygen rich Mira and SRa variables brighter than K=+0.6. Results are now available for 34 stars (25 Miras and 9 SRa variables). The longer period Miras have a 12C/13C ratio about three times larger than the shorter period Miras. For Miras, period, Tc abundance and 12C/13C are shown to be functionally related. This is interpreted in terms of a period-mass relation.
