Radioglaciology

Part of the book series: Glaciology and Quaternary Geology ((GQGE,volume 1))

Abstract

In this section we shall study the capability of a sounder system mounted in an aircraft flying at a certain height above the ice surface. We shall assume an idealized situation comprising a flat, homogeneous ice sheet resting on a horizontal rock bed; the interfaces are smooth planes so that no scattering takes place. We may therefore consider the measurement situation by the mirror principle (Section 3.7).
