Abstract
In organic synthesis, it is sometimes useful to remove a functional group from a molecule. For example, decarbonylation is a convenient method of removing formyl groups in steroid molecules. There are no large-scale commercial applications of this type of reaction, but numerous laboratory-scale syntheses have been developed.
