Abstract
Studies of the kinematic characteristics of various wave types observed along horizontal profiles have been rather comprehensive. Equations have been derived and horizontal traveltime curves described for a wide range of seismic models. Kinematic characteristics of waves observed along vertical profiles have been studied much less so. In borehole seismics vertical traveltime curves of the first arrivals for both in-line and off-line profiles have been mainly considered. Until recently, the vertical traveltime curves of waves recorded in the later portion of the record have not been studied.
