Abstract
The theory of time-measurement developed in Chapter III not only represents a clarification of the conceptual foundations of physics. It also offers, by means of standardized terminology, a proper instrumentarium for a historical investigation of chronometry. We may have been thereby justified in postponing such considerations until this chapter.
