Abstract
The most recent and promising research in this area has been on the reduction of dicarbonyl compounds by the group of Izumi at the Institute of Protein Research of the University of Osaka. By careful evaluation of various parameters, such as origin of the nickel metal, the nature of chiral modifier and mode of modification, and pressure, temperature, and pH of the reduction, they have achieved steady progress in improving ee values, from 3–5% (1965) to greater than 80% (1979).
