Abstract

“Solid state ionics” normally means the science of ionic transport in solids. With a little imagination. this term could conjure up a core glamorous image - that of an advanced integrated circuit in which parts of the semiconductor architecture have been replaced by fast ion conductors. Sadly, however, the electro- chemist’s dream of a new technology of “ionics” to parallel the recent electronics revolution Mill probably never cone true - because of the relatively low rates of ion transport.
