Abstract
Insulating polymers have been used in aqueous electrolyte batteries for their resistance to corrosive environment, as containers for the lead acid battery or as separators in Ni Cd cells. Either ionically or electronically conductive polymers have appeared in the last decade, and have almost immediately been claimed for use as active components, as electrolyte or electrode in new battery designs. The immediate advantages expected from polymer technology in electrochemistry arc:
-
-good mechanical properties
-
-easy processing
-
-use of lightweight, non toxic or non depletable elements like carbon.
