Abstract
The successful application of an ion exchange process depends on the properties of the ion exchange resin on one hand and the ion exchange device on the other hand. From the point of view of a water treatment engineer, the improvement of the characteristics of the ion exchange resin has always been given priority over the development of the ion exchange device. The success of reverse osmosis, in recent years, has kept the drive to improve ion exchange equipment low. Even today, most advantages gained by choosing the proper resin are often lost through inappropriate equipment.
