Part of the book series: International Studies in Economics and Econometrics ((ISEE,volume 11))

Abstract

The regional distribution of total employment is affected directly by the regional distribution of the petroleum activities, and indirectly by the domestic use of oil and gas revenues. The first part of this paper gives a survey of the regional economic aspects of the petroleum activities, and possible impacts on recent regional developments in Norway are briefly discussed. In the second part of the paper future regional consequences of the petroleum activities are analysed. Particular attention is paid to the regional impacts of more extensive petroleum activities off the coast of Northern Norway. The analysis is based on calculations on a multiregional input-output model constructed by the Central Bureau of Statistics.
