Abstract
For the analysis of vibrating systems with two or more degrees of freedom in general computational methods have to be applied. Only seldom are pencil and paper sufficient to determine the eigenvalues, natural modes, trajectories or frequency responses. Thus for higher system orders (usually n ⩽ 4) the aid of electronic computers is required. Here one distinguishes mainly between two types of machines, the analog computer and the digital computer which may also be combined to form a hybrid computer.
