Abstract

To investigate the relationship of the gradient of a coronary artery stenosis and the pressure distal to the stenosis after proximal occlusion during PTCA to the amount of angiographically estimated collaterals 63 patients were studied. All patients had single vessel disease (54 LAD, 8 RCA, 1 CX) and there were 55 males and 8 females. All patients had documented ischemia and PTCA was carried out within 4 weeks after the initial angiogram. The patients were divided according to their initial angiogram into 4 groups: O = no collaterals (n = 35), + = just visible collaterals (n = 8), + + = collaterals without reaching the contralateral vessel (n = 10), + + + = filling of the contralateral vessel (n = 10).
