Abstract

In the treatment of coronary heart disease, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTCA) is well established as alternative and additive to coronary bypass graft surgery. The indications are rapidly expanding and can include unstable angina, evolving infarction, occluded vessels, stenosed bypass grafts and multivessel disease [1–5]. The potential risk of complications increases with complex lesions and critically ill patients.
