Abstract

The resumption of ovarian activity is delayed by various factors and most of the nursing females are in ovarian inactivity when they have to be bred. Teatments such as the introduction bull, temporary calf removal, progestagen and PMSG gave variable results of induction of oestrus and ovulation. Endocrine studies suggest that there are two main steps in ovarian inactivity weak (FSH+, LH-) and deep (FSH-, LH-). The variable percentage of females in deep or in weak inactivity presumably explains the variability of the response to treatments.
