Abstract

The studies presented are part of the work of the CEMUBAC medical team in the highlands of Kivu (Zaïre) and in Rwanda. Two special aspects of the protein energy malnutrition (PEM) encountered will be developed in detail: lactose malabsorption and trace element (TE) status during and after recovery of PEM.
