Epidemiology of Infantile Bacterial Diarrheal Disease in Brazil

  • Chapter
Book cover Bacterial Diarrheal Diseases

Abstract

Although we are supposed to present a paper on the epidemiology of infantile diarrhea in Brazil, we will not attempt to cover the whole subject. On the contrary, this paper will deal basically with the prevalence of the principal enteropathogenic bacteria and viruses in the feces of infants with endemic diarrhea and control groups. We should also initially say that we are not going to present data from all over Brazil. First of all, no data are available for many areas of the country and second, most of the available data concern infants of low socioeconomic level.
