Abstract
A great man died in the summer of 1982. His name was William McCall. Throughout his life, McCall made a number of important contributions to the field of education. He invented the T-Score, developed tests and teaching materials, and conducted a number of important educational studies. In 1923, McCall published How to Experiment in Education, the first systematic application of experimental procedures to the field of education. Campbell and Stanley (1963), in their now-classic chapter on “Experimental and Quasi-Experimental Designs in Research and Teaching,” acknowledge their debt to McCall by stating, at the outset, that their chapter was merely an updating of ideas propounded by McCall. I can assure you that they were not suffering from excessive modesty.
