Abstract
The previous chapter dealt primarily with the adolescent’s moving out of the family of origin. This chapter, which completes part I, focuses on maturational processes in relation to peers of both sexes, on the task of preparing for the adult role of work, and on personal identity achievement. Although attention is given throughout this book to variations in development and behavior according to gender, socioeconomic status, and cultural factors, these topics are the foci of the chapter’s last two sections.
