Abstract

A device is described which can aid the accurate assessment and sampling of sediment properties in situ. This probe consists of two units, uphole and downhole, joined by a logging cable, and a multiprocessor electronic control system. The downhole probe consists of both Dutch cone penetrometer and a standard penetration test tool, with individual power units. The simplicity of the device allows easy operation on site, and data may be displayed, stored and manipulated readily.
